Why we built Even — the story behind the app

We are three friends who have known each other for more than twenty years. We met at a global company in Montevideo, and last year we decided to build our own company — based in Punta del Este, where one of us is from, while the other two are from Montevideo. Even is what we chose to build first.

Two decades of "te paso después"

Like anyone who travels in a group, shares a house, or just goes out with friends, we lived the classic routine our whole lives: one person pays, everyone else promises to "pass the money later," and a mental list starts growing that nobody really enjoys checking. Trips, asados, shared rent — always the same story: good times, great food, and perfectly uncalculated accounts.

Why we started a company

Last year we stopped saying "someday we'll build something" and actually did it. We created our own software company in Punta del Este with one rule that has kept us focused ever since: only build tools we would genuinely use ourselves. No features for the sake of features — just things that make real, everyday problems disappear.

Why we started with shared expenses

We chose shared expenses because it's the problem we've all lived forever. We used the tools that already existed ourselves, and we simply didn't like them — we were always saying "I would do it this way…". One day, at a meeting between the three of us, we asked the obvious question: why don't we build it? And that's how Even was born: an app you can open while the bill is still on the table, split by %, shares, or unequal parts, and close the tab in seconds — with everything synchronized so the whole group always sees the same numbers.

• Multi-currency support and AI-powered receipt scanning (OCR).
• Excel/CSV export and PDF summaries, for those who like the details.

What's next

We're just getting started, and honestly, the best feedback so far has come from people who use Even in real life — at real dinners, real trips, real shared houses. So if you try it and something feels off, or you have an idea that would make your group's life easier, we want to hear it.
